About Minnesota
Things to Do in the Twin Cities
Welcome to Minnesota! We’re the land of 10,000 lakes, snow, and FIRST Robotics fanatics. When not refining your robot’s transmission and programming autonomous code, why not check out a few Twin Cities’ attractions?
The Mall of America (MOA) offers hundreds of shops, as well as an indoor amusement park with a log flume ride, ferris wheel, and roller coasters. Be sure to say hello to Minnesota’s hero Paul Bunyan and “Babe the Blue Ox.” At MOA, Underwater Adventures features coral reef fish, intimidating sharks, and snake-like eels that whirl overhead in glass tunnels.
Area theatres are always a great place to find entertainment. The Children’s Theatre in Minneapolis stages plays for both teens and kids. The Guthrie Theatre puts on more serious plays, but the acting is no less incredible. No time to see a play? Visitors are welcome to tour the facility, including the “endless bridge,” which affords a view of construction at the site of I-35 bridge collapse. Less seriously, Comedy Sportz is an improvisational club where audience members play along with the teams on stage.
Even the youngest of robotics fans deserve a chance to work off some energy. The Minnesota Children’s Museum is about 15 minutes away in downtown St. Paul. Older children and teens may find the Science Museum of Minnesota is sure to please.
For those who long for a quieter getaway, the Bell Museum of Natural History on the campus of the University of Minnesota (U of M) offers unique insights into the natural sciences, while modern art fans can check out the Weisman Art Museum, just a brisk walk from the U of M’s Williams Arena. A wonderful vantage point for that perfect souvenir photo can be found at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, featuring the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry.
